Board of Directors Kim Jorgensen, Board Chair Kim has worked in the film industry for 14 years in a variety of production and post-production roles. As the Chair of the Fundraising Committee for Peace4Kids, Kim oversaw a remarkable growth of the organization in 2004. She works to bridge the gap between the diverse communities of Los Angeles by encouraging the entertainment community to funnel their resources to children in need. Kim can be seen mentoring Peace4Kids participants each Saturday. Tonya Burns Ms. Burns is currently the manager of the Child Care Assistance Program at Crystal Stairs, Inc. in Los Angeles. Prior to her work at Crystal Stairs, she was the Los Angeles Regional Director of the Olive Crest Foster Family and Adoption Agency. She has also been a staff consultant with the Child Welfare League of America and has worked for the Department of Children and Family Services in various managerial and staff positions. Miranda Parker, Teen Advisor to the Board Miranda was a participant in the Peace4Kids programs prior to turning 18 years old. She was in foster care for 14 years of her life and lived in over 10 foster homes. Miranda is enrolled in Compton College and has her own apartment through the transitional housing program. She plans to finish college and become a nurse's assistant. Stacy J. Brooks Stacy currently serves as the Human Resources Director for Girls and Boys Town of Southern California but has had a long history of engaging with youth services. Her interest started in her teenage years where she offered tutoring support to underprivileged youth. While in undergraduate school at the University of Southern California, Stacy began working in the non-profit sector and has served in various capacities such as a residential manager, counselor, therapeutic behavior specialist, and public relations manager. Although her current position does not afford her the opportunity to work directly with youth, Stacy continues to fulfill this passion by serving as the Youth Leader at her church, and by establishing a Summer Program that has sponsored low-cost activities for adolescents for the past five years. Deisy Rolon Deisy Rolon is 22 years old and is currently working at the Los Angeles Conservation Corps and attending college. Since the age of six, Deisy has been in and out of foster care and in numerous placements throughout Los Angeles County. Although her time in foster care was difficult she has always maintained a positive attitude. Deisy has aspirations of becoming a model and actress in addition to working in the fashion industry. She would also like to become a foster parent and a therapist to support youth who have had similar experiences. Miles Cooley Miles Cooley is a partner with the international Law firm of Reed Smith LLP. He is a member of the firm’s Litigation Group in the Century City office in Los Angeles. Miles also serves on the boards of the John Burton Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the lives of youth in foster care, and Elevate Film & Music Festival Foundation. Miles’ commitment to volunteerism has seen him do everything from Community Development in Ecuador with the Peace Corps to assisting in expediting adoption proceedings through the Los Angeles Children’s court. From 1975-76 and 1983-1988, Miles was in the California foster-care system which is one of the reasons why the efforts of Peace4Kids are important to him. Tara Schemansky Tara Schemansky is labor and employment litigation attorney from Michigan where she represented many Fortune 150 companies and was a speaker on Legal Ethics for local Detroit Chambers of Commerce and the American Bar Association. After recently moving to Los Angeles, Tara has been admitted to practice in California. Tara has always had a passion for helping foster youth. In addition to her service to Peace4Kids, Tara has served as a volunteer in Michigan for the St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center, which provides support services and residential care to foster children, their families and teen mothers and fathers. Joe Ponciano Joe Ponciano is the Regional Director of Operations for Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. He is the parent of three children and was formerly a foster parent. Joe has volunteered his time at Peace4Kids and at The Help Group in an effort to mentor children and teens. He offers high quality management skills to the Board, including staff development, hiring, financial analysis, relationship building, leadership, and customer service. |
