Broken Silence

It has been the understanding that each generation brings with it new insight, perspective and vision. Unfortunately as the world grows smaller in this information age it seems to be suffocating our children. They remain the forgotten population throughout society. Being the latest victims in legislation that seeks to incriminate them before they discover their gifts, many young people have fallen to the plague of violence and the unspoken code of survival on urban streets across the country.

This generation of young men and women also fight against the misfortune of coming from untraditional family backgrounds. Currently in the United States there are nearly 600,000 foster youth. California represents the highest number of children in care with nearly 120,000. One would think that these numbers are insurmountable. However in the midst of all of this is still the soul and spirit of youth. We have attempted to capture this spirit and put it on paper so that everyone can see its brilliance flickering with strength through the murky darkness.

It has long been the intention of Peace4Kids to provide a safe community haven for these forgotten children of all backgrounds and experiences. It was to be in this place that each child would be given the opportunity to recognize their unlimited potential, and explore the unimaginable. "Broken Silence”, is the first in what hopes to be a long series of these youth inspired explorations.

It is an honest depiction of their thoughts, dreams, desires and an intimate commentary on life. It is inspired solely by their own experiences, and by their desire to just be heard. Listen to their voices as they are each uniquely expressed in a cadre of youthful exuberance. We truly believe that the children are the greatest gift that has been bestowed upon us. From our unique intergenerational relationship with them, we have been able to impart the wisdom of those who came before us and see the hopes and desires of those still to come. Please enjoy our little slice of love served by a few angels who are truly heaven sent.
