A Gift for the Giver…

Anne Frank once said, “How wonderful that no one need wait a single moment to improve the world." Service is a courageous yet simple way to embody this idea, and at Peace4Kids we have the fortune of having an incredible group of over 75 people who understand this concept, and live it! These people are the volunteers of Peace4Kids. Some have been with us from the day our doors opened, while others have just been with us for weeks. However, we know that the impact they make, regardless of the time that they have been with us, is an invaluable asset in the lives of our youth.

Although we know that our volunteers are only with us for the joy of helping others, we also understand how important it is to remind them of how grateful we are for their support. On Sunday, July 16th, we did just that by giving them a Volunteer Appreciation Day at Manhattan Beach. With the summer sun, cool Pacific, and warm sand as our backdrop, we celebrated the special art of service Peace4Kids style. We ate together, played together, and even threw in private ocean view massages that two masseuses provided all day. Our volunteers spend so much time throughout the year supporting the needs of our youth that it was great to see them being taken care of as well.

As the sun set into the ocean, so also did it set on our day. Our volunteers headed home but not without the unmistakable feeling that they do make a difference in the world. The next Saturday they were right back where they always are. They stood side by side with our youth infused and invigorated with a stronger commitment to serve and support them in realizing their dreams…Anne Frank would be proud!
