In a mentor's own words I have been Jessica’s mentor since November 2006. Having her in my life has been a powerful and challenging experience. I am learning so much from Jessica… how to be a better listener, patience, how sometimes being supportive means not doing anything at all and I’m learning how to be special kind of friend. I always thought I knew how to be a friend but Jessica has taught me to broaden my horizons. As a mentor I am discovering that, for now, the best thing I can do is to just be there for her. When I first entered the mentor program I thought to myself “I can’t wait to share my experiences with someone else and make a difference.” While I believe I am doing that what I didn’t consider is how much my mentee would teach me and how much having a mentee would make a difference in my life. I hope to know Jessica the rest of my life… maybe one day I’ll teach her how to drive. If you know Jessica that’s quite a vision!!! Jessica is a bright, funny, strong and beautiful young lady and I am honored to be her mentor. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please e-mail Michelle at mentor@peace4kids.org Please take a moment and consider making a gift to Peace4Kids. Your tax-deductible contribution will help us work closer
with foster and at-risk youth, and guide their journey into adulthood. It is the only way we will be able to expand and
sustain our programs. |
