 When we were asked to write a small piece about our mentor/mentee relationship, we decided to write this thing together. Well, where do I start? Jason plays an important role in my life today. He has taught me responsibility and given me a job. He is preparing me for the world today. When I am having problems with my mom or in life, he is there for me to talk to him. And when I need to get things off my mind, he makes me smile by joking with me and he always has a positive attitude. Having a mentor really has opened a lot of doors of opportunities and I am thankful to have such a positive role model in my life. To tell you the truth, when we were first started this thing, I did not want a mentor, but I did not know how much help I needed, so now I am glad to have Jason as my mentor.
Having Trayvon as my mentee has taught me an enormous amount. We’ve built a good friendship that will last for a very long time. There’s something special about taking a role in someone’s life, acting as a listener and being supportive. The strange thing is that has been something that we both have gotten from this relationship. We’ve become true friends!! We’ve had some differences and we’ve been able to talk them out, learning to communicate effectively. Again something that has been beneficial to both of us. |
