From the inception of Peace4Kids, volunteers have been our hallmark, lifeblood, and foundation. In fact for the first six years of our existence, Peace4Kids was entirely volunteer run. As a result we want to highlight some very special people every month for all that they do to support our community and our youth.
DECEMBER 2008 – P4K VOLUNTEER HERO AWARD
ALYSON REED –
A tireless member for the past three years, Alyson is currently a mentor, a Saturday program volunteer, a Peace4Kids community advocate and a donor. She has consistently requested to keep her gifts anonymous but she has often given not only her time but sizable financial support for nearly every P4K fundraising campaign. As an actress and an author, Alyson’s time is limited but she somehow still finds a way to be very present with our kids. In a recent illustration of Alyson’s dedication, she spent a whole two days being an advocate for a runaway foster youth who was just a visitor to Peace4Kids on a Saturday morning. This young woman opened up to Alyson that she was in need of support to move through a tough situation, and Alyson seized that moment and encouraged her to face her fears and tackle her problems.
It is heroes like Alyson that remind us, that we shouldn’t try to make a difference but become the difference maker. Thank you for all that you do Alyson… we love you!
We have some very modest volunteers so we create this monthly acknowledgment without their permission as we know they would surely tell us that they don’t need the accolades… Check back next month for the next P4K hero award
