From the inception of Peace4Kids, volunteers have been our hallmark, lifeblood, and foundation. In fact for the first six years of our existence, Peace4Kids was entirely volunteer run. As a result we want to highlight some very special people every month for all that they do to support our community and our youth.
JANUARY 2009 – P4K VOLUNTEER HERO AWARD
MARK BENSON –
Mark Benson has been a volunteer with Peace4Kids for nearly three years. Since his time here, there hasn't been any task he has turned down. Mark once believed his volunteerism would only be temporary, but he fell in love with Peace4Kids and has dedicated himself to being not only a volunteer but also a mentor and a teacher. Since he started with us, Mark has become a consistent face each and every week having the best attendance record of all of our volunteers. He has taken on every responsibilty asked of him from being a positive male our young men can confide in, to transporting food for our community service day. Coming from a very similar background as many of our youth, Mark is able to relate and provide sound reason to them and has gained their trust through his honest and humble personality. Mark has recently volunteered to create a documentary about the experience one of our youth is having directing his first music video for Black Eyed Peas band member Apl.de.ap. Mark is always present and prepared to serve the youth of Peace4Kids and enjoys participating in their ongoing discovery of new possibilities in their life.
It is heroes like Mark that remind us, that we shouldn’t try to make a difference but become the difference maker. Thank you for all that you do Mark… we love you!
We have some very modest volunteers so we create this monthly acknowledgment without their permission as we know they would surely tell us that they don’t need the accolades… Check back next month for the next P4K hero award.
