Peace4Kids Mentor/Mentee Holiday Party
Betty (who is my mentee), her sister Tasha, and I laughed the entire way to the Mentor/Mentee Holiday party….to the point of tears. It was great! Not a bad way to begin a celebration! It was wonderful to walk inside Maria’s house (Mentor Coordinator) and be greeted by familiar, smiling faces. Everyone is always so excited to get caught up and the energy is exhilarating. It is family. When you add to that a trampoline and karaoke, can you ask for anything more!? We got to see all of the mentors and mentees who we hadn’t seen in a while. All of us being together is such a treat. It was clear that it was important to all of us to be there. I got to steal a little solo time with Betty before dinner and we made ornaments. I put mine on my family tree Christmas Eve. However, I put it backwards because Betty wrote a note that far topped my drawing side! I would have to say the best part of the night was listening to all of the kids running and laughing and playing (massive sugar highs aside!). Nothing else mattered at that moment other then the pure joy of being surrounded by the people who are most important to you. The drive home consisted of the girls re-enacting and telling all the details and stories of the night. I love this. To hear their perspective and excitement with each topic, it became very evident that they all had an AMAZING time! I did as well. The time with them is precious beyond what I can explain and I am grateful to get to know Betty as she goes on her exploration of life.
