From the inception of Peace4Kids, volunteers have been our hallmark, lifeblood, and foundation. In fact for the first six years of our existence, Peace4Kids was entirely volunteer run. As a result we want to highlight some very special people every month for all that they do to support our community and our youth.
Additionally, our program could not exist without our extraordinary youth. They are truly the reason why Peace4Kids has been able to thrive and establish a remarkable reputation in the community. For this reason, it is only natural that we acknowledge them as well.
Volunteer Hero of the Month:
Dedicated, dependable and compassionate are words to express Milissa Brockish. Milissa has been a Peace4Kids Saturday core volunteer for 4 years and with her gentle approach she has built wonderful, lasting relationships with our youth.
Milissa can usually be seen playing games with our kids in the recreational room or making sure she is available to assist with the program in any way. Her tranquil and accepting demeanor allows her to interact with our youth and she creates a space where they feel comfortable with her.
Recently Milissa has started the P4K Book club and they just finished their 1st book, The Hunger Games. Milissa was able to bring donated copies of The Hunger Games directly from the author, Suzanne Collins! It is the desire to serve our kids in their own way that makes a volunteer special and that’s why we are proud to name Milissa Brockish volunteer hero of the month of April.
Youth Hero of the Month:
Tasha age 8 has been with the Peace4Kids family and enrolled in the Peace Garden group when she was 5 years old. Since day one she has won the hearts of her peers and the Volunteers with her magnetic smile. Every Saturday she enters the Peace Garden classroom with enthusiasm, and approaches every project of the day with an eagerness to learn new skills. Tasha is compassionate, cooperative and communicates well with her peers and the Volunteers. In her growth with our program she will be a true advocate to lead the way for our youth and the Peace4Kids philosophy.
